Columbus Community Hospital will celebrate the completion of its multi-year building expansion and renovation project at the Columbus Community Dedication and Celebration event November 20 at 1 p.m. at the Columbus Wellness Center. The event is free and open to the public.
“Being a rural health care leader means planning for the future and enabling the wide range of care and services that our growing region requires and our community deserves,” said Columbus Community Hospital CEO James Vanek.
While many rural hospitals in Texas and the nation are limiting services or closing their doors, Columbus Community Hospital stands out for its execution of financially sound expansion to deliver even better patient care and to serve the community’s health and wellness needs. Earlier this year, the hospital was named a top 100 rural and community hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health for the fifth consecutive year.
The hospital’s expansion and renovation project began in 2021 and was completed without the use of federal or state funding or local taxes. New facilities include the Columbus Wellness Center, a 32,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility that offers physical therapy resources, exercise equipment, a walking track, an indoor pool, community education classrooms, a demonstration kitchen, emergency rooms, a dining room, a conference room, and additional parking. Renovations to inpatient facilities include new labor and delivery space, nursery bays, and a 12-bed post anesthesia care unit (PACU). Outpatient facilities were also upgraded, adding over 5,000 square feet of clinic and office space, as well as a major expansion of the Columbus Medical Clinic with 46 new patient examination rooms and new medical office space in the Professional Building.
