Recognized by State Officials as Designated Level II Facility for Maternity Services
(COLUMBUS, Texas) The Texas Department of State Health Services recognized Columbus Community Hospital as a Level II Maternal Care Facility.
The recognition follows an intensive review of operations at the hospital by state officials, who examined the facility’s preparation, staff training, and other requirements. The recognition affirms the hospital’s ability provide care for pregnant and postpartum patients with medical, surgical, and/or obstetrical conditions that present a low to moderate risk of maternal morbidity or mortality.
“This recognition is an example of the kind of investment our team is making to ensure our community is building a bright health care future for our area,” said James Vanek, Columbus Community Hospital president/ CEO.
The Level II Maternal Care Facility designation remains effective through Jan. 1, 2025. According to TDSHS, 89 other hospitals are recognized as a Level 2 Maternal Facility. In 2018, Texas officials developed and finalized the designation standards to address a death of women within the first year of giving birth.
“Your hospital is commended for its commitment to quality care and the commitment to achieve and maintain Level II (Specialty Care) designation,” said John Hellersted, M.D., TDSHS commissioner, in a letter officially notifying hospital leaders of the recognition.
