After initially studying to become an engineer, Zane Brown was inspired by his father’s stories and experiences as a nurse and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Zane began his nursing career in Victoria in 2009 before choosing to work closer to home and joining Columbus Community Hospital’s ER staff in 2012.
“I’ve always wanted to be in Columbus,” recalled Zane. “This is the community I grew up in; this is the hospital I was born in. I’m proud to take care of people I know in my community and work as part of a team that is wholly dedicated to providing the best possible care for our patients.”

ERs are fast-paced environments requiring nurses to maintain their composure while juggling a variety of tasks. ER nurses must keep their focus in sometimes chaotic and urgent situations while also providing expert care and comfort for patients during critical moments.
Zane routinely meets these challenges and exemplifies two of nurses’ hallmark qualities — bravery and willingness to adapt.
“We wear a lot of hats as nurses,” said Zane. “It’s important for us to be ready to handle just about any emergency we are presented with. The investments we’ve made in expanding services and providing top-notch facilities help us take care of more patients right here in Columbus.”
National Nurses Week recognizes and celebrates nurses like Zane who are the backbone of Columbus Community Hospital. From performing routine blood draws to managing intense emergencies, nurses perform their duties with excellence and poise, each and every day.
